Lauren D. Berkich
Lauren only practices family law because she has a passion for representing real people with real problems. Practicing family law typically entails more than just representing a client. A family law attorney must be prepared to handle the nebulous, emotional issues that are often accentuated during family law disputes. Thus, the family law attorney must be able to provide their client with the resources and emotional support so that the family can move forward, even if the marriage cannot. Lauren provides her clients with compassionate, yet honest representation.
Lauren frequently appears in court on behalf of her clients. She is prepared, efficient, and articulate. Lauren also has a passion for helping clients outside of the courtroom. She handles divorce mediations – either acting as the neutral mediator for a couple seeking a divorce or representing one party in mediation. Lauren also practices collaborative divorce, which is a process whereby a team of professionals, including attorneys, mental health professionals, and financial professionals work together to amicably and efficiently separate a marriage.
Lauren graduated from Bucknell University in 2006 and then obtained her law degree of the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law in 2011. Lauren’s interest in family law began right after she graduated law school, while she was clerking for Judge James T. Russell in Carson City, who presided over many family law cases. After her clerkship, Lauren went to work for the law firm Allison, MacKenzie, Pavlakis, Wright & Fagan, in Carson City, practicing family law. Later, Lauren practiced family law at the law firm Woodburn and Wedge in Reno. During her tenure there, Lauren was named in the annual list, “Legal Elite 2015: Nevada’s Top Attorneys.”
Lauren is married, has a daughter, and three dogs. Lauren enjoys spending time with her family outdoors in Northern Nevada.
Lauren was President of Northern Nevada Women Lawyers Association in 2016. She served as a board member of NNWLA from 2013 to 2016, and continues to remain involved in the group. NNWLA is an organization committed to the advancement of women in the legal profession.
Lauren is a member of the Board of Directors of Safe Embrace domestic violence shelter, based in Sparks, Nevada. Safe Embrace not only provides shelter to domestic violence victims, it also has an animal shelter to house victims’ beloved pets. In 2017 Berkich Family Law partnered with Safe Embrace and Step2 to begin hosting a monthly pro bono legal clinic to assist victims of domestic violence. For more information, please contact us.
Lauren is the Secretary of Nevada Collaborative Divorce Professions (NCDP), a group dedicated to educating the public about collaborative divorce.
In addition to so the many above commitments and accolades, Lauren was nominated for Reno’s Top 20 Under 40 in 2016, a program put on by Reno Tahoe Young Professionals Network with partner, RGJ Media. “Each year a group of 20 talented, accomplished, very involved young leaders are chosen from nominations received.”
When you need a lawyer, especially for an emotionally draining process such as a divorce, you want someone who knows Nevada laws inside and out, works tirelessly for your interests, and cares about your well being. That’s what I received when I hired Lauren Berkich Family Law Firm to represent me. Lauren Berkich is a compassionate and tough lawyer, who fought hard for resolution for my case. She has the knowledge, experience, and tenacity to help you through your hard time too.
Our family is all from out of state, but we needed representation for an estate matter in Nevada. Lauren offered to accept the role after carefully explaining that the work we needed was outside her specialty area. We accepted this situation.
Our hope and goal was to find an attorney who would be a good communicator and gather information that our family needed in order to make important decisions. Lauren met all our hopes in this matter. Her communications were timely and very clear.
She helped us make some important decisions, including the decision to hire an attorney to replace her, with an attorney who specializes in our type of case.
Lauren filled the role we needed and we recommend her highly when representation is needed that will benefit from good communication and clarity.
This is by far one of the best practices in Reno. Lauren has a tremendous amount of experience and is willing to fight to make everything 100% fair. She has an extraordinary amount of knowledge in the area she practices and can speak to you on a level that is easy to understand. I would highly recommend her to anyone seeking divorce or family law issues.
I was first drawn to Lauren due to her ability to do collaborative and uncontested divorces. My husband at the time told me that we should get divorced, so I thought this would be a fairly simple process where we could all work together to part paths amicably. I was just doing as he desired. However, things quickly turned ugly, but Lauren was still able to represent me. She kept me focused on the prize: freedom from my abuser. She and her staff worked with urgency to ensure my freedom as soon as possible. I highly recommend Lauren and Berkich Family Law. Divorce is never a fun process, but through Lauren’s professionalism, dedication, and wisdom, I was able to escape much quicker than many thought possible.
I first contacted Lauren for help with a domestic violence situation. Her receptionist immediately assisted me and Lauren was able to see me the next day, which was Nevada Day. I decided I would proceed with filing for a divorce and serve him at the TPO hearing. The district court set the TPO hearing only a week from when the initial protection order was filed. Lauren worked quickly to make sure the paper work was in order and served at the TPO hearing. Lauren worked hard on my case, I often felt as if I was her only client. She was professional, honest, dedicated, and sympathetic to my situation. I felt completely comfortable with not only Lauren but her staff as well. Going through family court, a domestic violence situation, and a divorce is extremely difficult. Having Lauren and her staff to handle my case helped me get through a challenging time in my life. I would recommend Berkich Family Law to anyone who needs a Family Law Attorney. I just cannot say enough about Lauren and her staff, and thank her for taking my case and getting me through this divorce so quickly.
